November President's Message
Thank you to Roz for chairing the October meeting. I hope you found Lowell’s discussion of competition showcases interesting. We would like to see other members become inspired to participate in future SFMS competitions and will help if we can.
At the meeting on November 7, Mario is planning on providing us with a slide show and discussion of the proper and safe use of the saws when cutting rocks and slabs. There’s always new information on everything we do and he adds a stone I hadn’t heard of before to the list of those that require the extra safety precaution of wearing a mask.
We have a busy class schedule and I hope you will plan to participate. Please see the list. Lucy has added painting on metal as part of the available subjects on Sundays which blends in well with the copper projects that John teaches. Our wirewrap class went well and some photos are included. Please remember that open shops are for any projects that you want to start or continue working on and supervisors will help with whatever questions you have to the best of our ability.
The club is still displaying items in the showcase at the Merritt Island Library through the end of October. It will be moved to the Suntree Library for November.
Appreciation to Chris last month for cash donation toward supplies, those bringing consumable supplies, Craig for 2-drawer file for casting equipment, Madeline for wax injector, and Jenta for Quicken program for Cindy to use.
We hope to see everyone at the November 7 meeting beginning at 6pm at the Merritt Island Library. The slate for the club officers and Board members for 2014 will be presented by Madeline and elected by those attending the meeting. We are sorry that Jenta needed to resign as Treasurer but are most happy to welcome Cindy who has agreed to complete Jenta’s term of office and continue next year. Please thank Jenta and welcome Cindy.
