May President's Message
Some fun things coming up!! Take me out to the ball game on May 11, Saturday evening at 6:35. We hope to see you there. Come take a chance on the 50/50 to benefit our club. Please sell some tickets to friends and neighbors. Saturday, June 1, 11-3pm, let’s picnic and bid on lapidary items at the auction to raise funds for the club scholarship. Bring a dish to share to the Patrick AFB pavilion on the east side (ocean side) of A1A north of the AFB main gate and donate or buy from the auction. See map inside. Have a look at the class listings inside to see what fun things are planned at the workshop. Casting, metalsmithing, cabbing, wirewrap, beading, and many other things happen regularly. We’ll be happy to explain what these classes are about and help you plan your summer projects. If you wonder why I always seem to be stressing raising funds for the club, it’s because it costs us $9,000 a year to pay the routine rent, utilities, and insurance for the workshop. Add another thousand for basic supplies and machine maintenance. If you think the workshop is something special, and there’s a bunch of us who do, please help us support it. The club meeting on May 2, 6pm, at the Merritt Island Library will be the last formal meeting until September 5. The ballgame and picnic are the events following and we will keep in touch over the summer to keep you informed about scheduled classes and any other events. Open shop sessions will all remain the same through the end of May. The only change is in June, July, and August when Lowell will only do machine maintenance Wednesday mornings and not have open shop since Bill and Tom will be away. We hope to see you at the meeting, the game, the picnic, and/or the workshop. If not, have a happy and wonderful summer. If you go rockhounding or take classes, please remember to bring something to share at show and tell at the September meeting. The May Board meeting will be held at the workshop Monday, April 29, at 6pm or at 7pm if the Workshop Committee needs to meet first. That will be up to Roz since she will be conducting those meetings. I will be back for the General meeting at the Library on Thursday, May 2. See you then!! Michele Huntington |
